Mit »Zeit für Gaza« hat das Literaturhaus Berlin eine lose Veranstaltungsreihe gestartet, die sich der komplexen, oft unsichtbaren Realität in Gaza widmet und Literatur als Mittel der Erinnerung, des Widerstands und der Selbstbestimmung in den Vordergrund stellt. An diesem Abend steht die internationale Perspektive palästinensischer Autor:innen auf die anhaltende Nakba im Mittelpunkt.Nakba, arabisch für „Katastrophe“, war ursprünglich der Begriff, der im Volksmund für die Vertreibung und Massaker an arabischen Palästinenser:innen in den Jahren 1947–1949 verwendet wurde. Wie viele Schriftsteller:innen in ihren Werken zum Ausdruck bringen, wird darunter heute oftmals ein fortdauernder Prozess der Enteignung und Zerstörung des palästinensischen Lebens verstanden.

Die ägyptische Autorin und Übersetzerin Wiam El-Tamami wird durch den Abend führen. Alaa Alqaisi wird über das Schreiben in Zeiten von Hungersnot und Belagerung sprechen. Somaia Abu Nada wird eine Gedenkrede halten und Gedichte ihrer ermordeten Schwester Heba Abu Nada vorlesen. Batool Abu Akleen wird ihre eigenen Gedichte vorlesen und mit Wiam El-Tamami über ihre Arbeit sprechen. Die palästinensische Schauspielerin Lamis Ammar liest Texte von Haneen Amin, Mohammed El-Kurd, Sarah Aziza, Muhammad al-Zaqzouq, Sara Abou Ghazal und Samer Abu Hawwash auf Englisch, Deutsch und Arabisch. Der Abend wird von der Übersetzerin Katharine Halls und der Schriftstellerin und Übersetzerin Alaa Alqaisi kuratiert.

‘Zeit für Gaza’ (Time for Gaza) is a loose series of events at Literaturhaus Berlin dedicated to the complex, often invisible reality of Gaza, highlighting literature as a tool of remembrance, resistance and self-determination. This evening will focus on Palestinian authors' international perspective on the ongoing Nakba. Nakba, meaning 'catastrophe' in Arabic, was the term originally given in popular parlance to the expulsion and massacre of Arab Palestinians in 1947–1949. As many writers express in their work, it is now understood to be a continuing process of dispossession and destruction of Palestinian life.

Egyptian author and translator Wiam El-Tamami will host the evening. Alaa Alqaisi will speak about writing through famine and siege. Somaia Abu Nada will deliver a memorial to, and read poems by, her murdered sister Heba Abu Nada. Batool Abu Akleen will read her own poetry and discuss her work with Wiam El-Tamami. Palestinian actor Lamis Ammar reads texts by Haneen Amin, Mohammed El-Kurd, Sarah Aziza, Muhammad al-Zaqzouq, Sara Abou Ghazal, and Samer Abu Hawwash in English, German and Arabic. The evening is curated by translator Katharine Halls and writer & translator Alaa Alqaisi.
